Medical tapes are used widely in hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and when providing care – from stimulating the muscles to anchorage for infusions. These widespread applications require a high number of cycles under medical standards during packaging.

THE ASSIGNMENT

High performance with maximum autonomy and automation are required. This means that the plant should run for as long as possible without needing human intervention. In doing so, medical standards are to be complied with as well as the US specification. Specifically, various sizes are to be packed and palletised in primary and secondary packaging.

THE SOLUTION

We achieved the desired high cycle rate by using two self-sufficient packaging plants with central robot palletising, which can process various VPE in parallel.  The two 3-track spiral conveyors, which act as material buffers, ensure that there is no production shortfall in the event of a breakdown.  We complied with the US specification through the NPT pneumatic standard together with Rockwell servo-drives and Allen-Bradley control components.
